COURSES COMMON TO ALL CONCENTRATIONS

PMN 1003 GOALS PRIORITIES AND ATTITUDES
The setting of goals, as well as priorities among those goals, with an emphasis upon how those goals and priorities relate to the realities and aspirations of life. The attitude of the individual including other aspects of psychological makeup and how it impacts upon the ability and willingness to set goals and priorities. An emphasis upon how goals, priorities and attitudes can lead to effective Christian personal
management.

GPL 1530 CHRISTIAN WORLDVIEW
The purpose of this course is to provide academic instruction on the importance of and ability of a Christian to understand the issues of truth and knowledge, how we arrive at truth, and what we do with truth.This course is designed, therefore, to deepen and broaden the student’s understanding of the core presuppositions of the Christian worldview, and to equip them to evaluate those presuppositions in contrast with other, competing worldviews. .

BOT 1503 OLD TESTAMENT HISTORY
A study of the history of the people of God in the Old Testament as recorded from Genesis through Esther. It considers God’s redemptive plan as expressed in His covenants with Israel. Special emphasis is made to understand the geography of the Near East.

BOT 2653 OLD TESTAMENT POETRY AND PROPHECY
A study of the wisdom literature and the prophetic literature of the Old Testament as recorded from Job through Malachi. There is special emphasis upon the formation of Hebrew poetry found throughout this literature.

BNT 2203 LIFE OF CHRIST
An exegetical study of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John with cross references to other Scriptures to explain the early life, ministry, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

BNT 1503 ACTS OF THE APOSTLES
A study of the history of the beginning of the Christian church as described in the New Testament book of Acts. The study focuses on the faith, practices, and teaching of the earliest church as it progressed from Jerusalem across the Greco-Roman world. Special attention is made of the historical contexts, the key players, and the strategies employed in the missionary expansion of these new communities.

BNT 2303 PAULINE EPISTLES
An overview of Paul’s writings to the first-century churches and individuals. This study highlights major doctrines and issues and considers the application of these principles to individuals and churches today. Appropriate hermeneutical principles and procedure are also demonstrated.

TTH 2103 BASIC BIBLE DOCTRINES
Focusing on the classical passages of the Old and New Testament, the study includes the basic theological concepts related to Scripture, God, Jesus Christ and His work, man and his salvation, the Holy Spirit and the church. The text allows exploration of the historical development of these doctrines as well as their biblical basis.

GHI 2303 HISTORY OF THE RESTORATION MOVEMENT
A study of the Restoration Movement in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries originating in the work of Alexander Campbell and Barton Stone. The course emphasizes the principles of doctrine, polity and practice as they were proclaimed in the quest for the unity of the church.

TET 2103 CHRISTIAN ETHICS
A study of theoretical and practical problems of moral conduct and proposed solutions with an emphasis upon the nature of ethics, values, rights, obligations and
opportunities.

COURSES ONLY IN THE LEADERSHIP AND MINISTRY CONCENTRATION

BEX 2004 HERMENEUTICS
A study of the process through which a person must proceed as he/she draws from the world of the ancient author, the world of the text and the world of the reader to gain a proper understanding of the meaning of the biblical text. The student will study methods of application leading to the development of theme, proposition, and finally the lesson itself.

PMN 3104 BIBLICAL CONCEPTS OF LEADERSHIP
A study of the various characteristics and connotations that Scripture teaches are part of the biblical concepts of leadership. It also includes an application of these concepts to both personal and career goals.

PMN 3124 CASE STUDIES IN LEADERSHIP
Case studies are selected for in-depth study of the application of leadership concepts with particular reference to those concepts found in Scripture. Students develop a written analysis of their style of leadership.

PUI 3454 CHURCH GROWTH AND PLANTING
This modular course introduces the student to the literature, skills and philosophy that enable him/her to lead in the planting of a new congregation. Using the Simple Church as an example and the experience of new church planters, the student is led through the process to see the decision this church made to grow into a vibrant congregation.

PMN 3204 COMMUNICATION CONCEPTS FOR MINISTERS
An introduction to the concepts of effective oral and written communication for interpersonal exchanges, as well as for functioning in teams and in other
organizational settings. The course emphasizes how these communication concepts are used in the work of pastoral ministry and preaching.

GPS 2504 INTRODUCTION TO COUNSELING

This course introduces the biblical principles of counseling and outlines the process by which Christian leaders can counsel people with specific problems. The course also provides an introduction to the counseling profession from a Christian perspective, explores how biblical and psychological principles may be integrated and applied to counseling issues, and describes the nature and role of the counselor as a person and as a professional.

PCE 2454 EVANGELISM AND SMALL GROUPS
A study of the nature, purpose and process of biblical evangelism and its application to various ministries, with special emphasis on New Testament discipleship principles and their application of building mentoring relationships and developing a small group ministry.

PMN 3604 THE CHURCH FACING THE 21ST CENTURY
A study of major issues facing the church as it enters the new century with emphasis on the key problems challenging the church and the trends that are likely to develop. This study considers Jesus’ teaching from the Sermon on the Mount to guide how Christians ought to deal with such issues.

PMG 2105 ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT
Study of management functions and processes in a variety of organizations. Topics include staff management, motivation, leadership, organizational development, teams, decision making.

PMG 3105 MARKETING
Provides background and overview of management tools and decisions within the marketing area including price, placement, product, promotion. Includes overview and application in both consumer and commercial markets.

PMG 3615 MICROECONOMICS
Study of consumer behavior, supply and demand, market structures, and world economy.

PMG 3605 MACROECONOMICS
Study of national income analysis, money and banking, monetary and fiscal policies, inflation, unemployment, and world economy.

PMG 3315 BUSINESS ETHICS
Study of the ethical foundations for sound decision making in management as applied to issues such as employer-employee relations, executive pay, the use of power, affirmative action and environment damage. Prerequisite: Christian Ethics

PMG 2405 FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING
Provides basic knowledge needed to read, understand and analyze financial accounting transactions and how to prepare and interpret financial statements.

PMG 2585 MANAGERIAL ACCOUNTING
Study in the use of accounting data in planning and controlling business operations. Topics include inventory valuation and income determination. Prerequisite: Financial Accounting

PMG 4205 MANAGEMENT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
A study in the successful application of IT systems within a business organization. Topics include role of IT, hardware, software, E-commerce, internet, data storage and mining, security, and system management.
