URBAN AND INTERCULTURAL STUDIES

C.U.G.O. website

DID YOU KNOW …

• 75 % of North Americans live in urban areas
• 50 % of the world population lives in urban areas
• By 2025, 2 out of 3 human beings on the planet will be urban dwellers
• 29% of the U.S. population today are ethnic minorities
• By the end of the 21st century, non-hispanic caucasians will comprise less than 50% of the American population

Effective ministry in the 21st century increasingly will require Christians to adjust to an urban and multicultural environment, not only on international mission fields, but in our own hometowns. Where better to prepare for service as an international missionary, urban minister, or simply a globally-minded Christian than in a Christian University located in the heart of a major metropolitan area?
Nearly two million people live in Greater Cincinnati, including representatives of more than 50 countries. We have 20 different nationalities with populations of over 1,000 members in the city. The spectacular view of the Cincinnati skyline from the CCU campus keeps our urban mission constantly in mind.

CUTTING EDGE
The field of Urban and Intercultural Studies at CCU is designed to position our graduates on the cutting edge of relevant and biblically-based ministry in today’s world. We offer a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies with a concentration in Urban and Intercultural Ministry. In addition to core requirements in general education, Bible and theology, students complete a professional core that includes courses such as:

• Anthropology
• Contemporary Non-Western Religions
• Preparing for Intercultural Ministry
• Biblical Foundations for Missions and
Evangelism
• Dynamics of World Cities
• Historical perspectives on the Church’s Global Mission
• Cross-Cultural Evangelism and Discipleship
• Urban Ministries Seminar

As part of the course of study, students will complete an internship in an urban or cross-cultural mission field of their choice. A wide range of ministry and cultural experiences are available in Cincinnati to complement the students’ in-class work.
