Internship

As a requirement to complete the MAC program, the Internship experience is a 600 hour supervised experience in providing counseling services to clients. The 600 contact hours must entail 240 direct contact hours and 360 general hours. Students typically complete this experience in two consecutive semester (enrolled in “PCO 792: Internship I” and “PCO 793: Internship II”), however sometimes a third semester is required (enroll in “PCO 794: Internship III”).

Internship Requirements

The Internship experience at CCU is designed to meet requirements of both the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Program (CACREP) and the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage & Family Therapist Board (CSWMFT). As such, the Internship experience will consist of the following elements:

  • A supervised experience consisting of 600 clock hours period.
  • A minimum of 240 direct service clock hours with bona fide clients.
  • A minimum of one hour per week of individual/triadic supervision.
  • A minimum of one and one-half hours per week of group supervision.
  • Opportunities for experience with professional counseling activities.
  • Includes opportunity for the diagnosis of mental and emotional disorders.
  • Appropriate audio/video recording capabilities for use in supervision.
  • Evaluation of student progress at throughout the Internship experience.
  • A formal summative evaluation at the end of the Internship experience.

Internship Course Requirements

The following courses are noted as prerequisite before a MAC student may begin the Internship experience. These courses are specifically designed to prepare the student in the development of advanced counseling skills in the provision of counseling services to clients.

  • PCO 592: Practicum I
  • PCO 593: Practicum II
  • PCO 594: Practicum III (if necessary)
  • PCO 680: Diagnosis of Mental and Emotional Disorders
