Practicum

As a requirement to complete the MAC program, the Practicum experience consists of 100 supervised hours of providing counseling services to clients. This 100 hours consists of 50 direct contact hours and 50 general hours. Students typically complete the Practicum experience in two semesters (enrolled in “PCO 592: Practicum I” and “PCO 593: Practicum II”), although some students may require a third semester to complete the Practicum requirements (enroll in “PCO 594: Practicum III”).

Practicum Requirements

The Practicum experience at CCU is designed to meet requirements of both the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Program (CACREP) and the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage & Family Therapist Board (CSWMFT). As such, the Practicum experience will consist of the following elements:

  • A supervised experience consisting of 100 clock hours period.
  • A minimum of 50 direct service clock hours with bona fide clients.
  • A minimum of one hour per week of individual/triadic supervision.
  • A minimum of one and one-half hours per week of group supervision.
  • Appropriate audio/video recording capabilities for use in supervision.
  • Evaluation of student progress at throughout the Practicum experience.
  • A formal summative evaluation at the end of the Practicum experience.

Practicum Course Prerequisites

The following courses are noted as prerequisite before a MAC student may begin the Practicum experiences. These courses are specifically designed to prepare the student in providing counseling services to clients.

  • PCO 510: Basic Counseling Theories
  • PCO 512: Ethical & Professional Issues for Counselors
  • PCO 580: Counseling Assessment
  • PCO 582: Counseling Techniques – Pre-Practicum
