Return of Federal (Title IV) Financial Aid

Each student should complete a Change in Registration Form at the Enrollment Services Office when withdrawing from all classes. The form will initiate the Return of Title IV Funds calculation.

The Financial Aid Staff recalculates the financial aid eligibility for students eligible to receive Title IV aid who withdraw, are dismissed or drop out prior to completing 60% of a semester. Title IV Funds include the following and will be returned to aid accounts in the following order:

  • Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan
  • Federal Direct Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan
  • Federal Direct PLUS Loan
  • Federal Pell Grant
  • Federal SEOG Grant

The Official Withdrawal Date will be the student’s last recorded date of attendance. This date will be used to determine the amount of aid to be returned. Refunds for students who are asked to withdraw will be calculated using the same formula as the one used for students who withdraw voluntarily. A copy of the worksheet used for this calculation may be requested from Enrollment Services.

A letter detailing the amount of Title IV aid to be returned will be sent to the student’s home address following withdrawal. After the Title IV aid is returned to the Department of Education, the student may owe a balance to CCU. The student should contact Enrollment Services to make payment arrangements for this balance.
