Professor Read serves as Chair of the Music & Worship department at CCU. Born in Indiana, Ken spent his growing up years in Cincinnati. He committed his life to Christ as a young teenager. From there, he went to music school and seminary to prepare for music ministry in the local church. After six years of ministry in churches in Ohio, Illinois and Kentucky, he was called to teach at CCU in 1988.

His wife, Ellen, and he were church youth group sweethearts who married after college. They are parents to a growing family of eight children and ten or so grandchildren, and as a family they purpose to concentrate on hospitality-based ministry.

Dr. Read is a published songwriter, having worked with Jeff Moody, Margaret Cloud Searcy, Justin Peters, Art Bush, Rich Mullins, Pauline Williams, J. D. Miller and others. In more recent years he has concentrated on worship songs, and owns his own non-profit publishing company, CByondMusic.com. He is most comfortable leading worship from a keyboard instrument. His vocal works have been performed throughout the region. As a scholar, he has done research on the theory and the content of contemporary Christian music. He has authored Created to Worship, published by College Press, and has self-published three other books on Christian living. Sought after as a worship leader, Read has led twice at the International Conference on Missions and at churches and state conventions. He has done worship consultations at dozens of churches over the years, and enjoys mentoring worship leaders.
