Music & Worship Faculty

The CCU Music & Worship Faculty and Staff represent a great diversity of backgrounds, experience and credentials. Each one has an active interest in music & worship in addition to his or her responsibilities at the college.

KEN E. READ – Field Chair, Professor of Music & Worship (1988); BM (Music Theory), College-Conservatory of Music (University of Cincinnati); MA (Practical Theology), MMin (Church Music), Cincinnati Christian University; MM (Music Theory), Miami University; DMA (Composition), School of Fine Arts (University of Kentucky); Institute for Worship Studies. Dr. Read teaches Worship Leadership, Music Ministry in the Church, Psalms Hymns & Spiritual Songs, Music Theory 4, Musicianship 4, Applied Composition, Writing and Arranging for Worship, Worship Studio Practicum, Orchestration, Survey of World Music, Integration Seminar and World Music Worship Ensemble. He also oversees supervised field experience, internships and ministry placement. He helps to lead a house church (Christ’s Community in Price Hill) and leads worship on Sundays at New Life Christian Church in Sharonville. See more.

GARY J. GREGORY – Professor of Music & Worship (1988); BME, Murray State University; MM, Eastman School of Music (University of Rochester); DWS, The Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies, Florida Campus; Rend Lake Community College; Milligan College; Southern Illinois University; Cincinnati Christian University. Dr. Gregory teaches Theory, Fundamentals of Aural Skills, Musicianship, Conducting, Worship and the Arts, Theology of Worship, private brass lessons, Winds of Praise Community Band, Vocal Ensemble, and Handbell Choir. BRENDA J. LANG – Professor of Music & Worship (1987); BA (Sacred Music, Christian Education), Lincoln Christian College; MM, University of Missouri; Chatauqua School of Music; Postgraduate work: College-Conservatory of Music (University of Cincinnati). Mrs. Lang teaches private voice lessons, Vocal Techniques, Vocal Pedagogy, Vocal Literature, Fundamentals of Written Theory, Music Theory, Advanced Conducting, and Concert Choir. CHRIS BARRICK – Adjunct Faculty in Music & Worship (2008); BM, Jacobs School of Music, (Indiana University); MM, College-Conservatory of Music (University of Cincinnati). MELINDA HICKMAN – Adjunct Faculty in Music & Worship (1997); BM, MM, DMA (Piano Performance), College-Conservatory of Music (University of Cincinnati). ROBERT JACKSON – Adjunct Faculty in Music & Worship (2012); BM, Cincinnati Christian University; Cincinnati Bible Seminary; Lincoln Christian Seminary. Mr. Jackson teacher Music Ministry in the Church. Global Worship Arts Pastor/Global Cultivate Pastor at Suncrest Christian Church.

KATIE READ – Adjunct Faculty in Music & Worship (2007); BM, Cincinnati Christian University; MEd, Milligan College; MM (Music Education plus Vocal Pedagogy certificate), University of Kentucky. Mrs. Read teaches Advanced Vocal Techniques and private voice lessons on a part-time basis. Involved at Parkside Christian Church. See more.

ELLIOTT SMITH – Adjunct Faculty in Music & Worship (2010); BM, Furman University; MM (piano and choral conducting) College-Conservatory of Music (University of Cincinnati). Mr. Smith directs the Celebration Singers, Instruments of Praise, and accompanies private voice lessons.  He works on a part-time basis as Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church of Glendale. Involved at Christ’s Community in Price Hill.

SUSAN SULLIVAN – Adjunct Faculty in Music Education (2012); BME, Morehead State University; Western Kentucky University; University of Louisville; MAE, Eastern Kentucky University. Ms. Sullivan’s responsibility includes teaching Early & Middle Childhood Music, and Secondary Music Methods in addition to the administrative oversight of the BME program. See more.

Mr. Wyatt teaches private voice lessons on a part-time basis and is full-time minister of the New Richmond Church of Christ. See more.

Mr. Thornburg teaches Introduction to Computer Music, Computer Notation and Live Sound and Recording Technology. Involved at Christ’s Fellowship at Little Miami in Maineville, OH. See more.

JEANNINE GEANS – Department Coordinator in Music & Worship (1995); BCE, Church Music Certificate, Great Lakes Christian College; Fort Wayne Bible College; Seminole Community College; Cincinnati Christian University. Ms. Geans is responsible for the administrative oversight of the music & worship office and the music library. She also serves as registrar for applied lessons and assists with new student recruiting. Involved at Forest Dale Church of Christ.
